ARTIST'S STATEMENT

My art utilizes a diverse array of materials, including wax, plaster, concrete, clay, glass, resin, wood, various metals, and occasionally video. It reflects my perception of the contemporary world. I am primarily recognized for my sophisticated sculptural pieces that examine the human body while integrating organic forms. My work frequently delves into themes of transcendence, memories, spirituality, and tragedy.

The subject matter of my recent works revolves around the memories of growing up in a middle-class household in rural India, where we had limited entertainment resources. We found joy in playing hide and seek in abandoned houses, filled with curiosity about the lives of those who once inhabited them. My region has undergone significant transformation; it has almost become a city. The once-abandoned areas and marshlands have been replaced by luxurious resorts adorned with vibrant gardens. This loss of the rawness of nature due to human intervention often evokes a sense of nostalgia and loss within me. It prompts me to reflect on the future of these newly constructed buildings and their eventual fate over the years. This contemplation instills in me a profound awareness of impermanence, as I realize that all memories may eventually fade away. In my recent artistic practice, I focus on highlighting my boyhood memories and the subsequent years following my lifetime.

At one level, my art has a profound connection with mortality. Whether we acknowledge it or not, we are all drawn to representations of death because, while it can be terrifying, it also sparks our curiosity. As human beings, we possess the capacity to comprehend the inevitability of our own demise. Since prehistoric times, humanity has been captivated by the concept of the afterlife, leading us to create images and portraits of our ancestors. We feel that our cherished ancestors remain with us in spirit, even though they no longer move among us as they once did.
